First day of Pre-School

The long awaited first day of Pre-school was today and I had two VERY excited kids. Kate woke up 2 times last night (something she has never done) to ask if the sunshine was out yet so she could go to school. The first time she woke up she didn't call for me or Brian- she called for Brett- how cute is that! We had orientation last week and got to meet their teachers. They were so excited to see their rooms. They have been counting down the days since then to today. Brett wanted to take Kate to her room first. He took her all around her room to show her where her name was and show her all the pictures of her on the wall and her cubby. Kate started getting worried and asking if we were going to stay with her. I told her again about how she was going to stay with her friends and her teachers and I would be back after lunch. I also assured her that Brett was going to be right down the hall. Brett came over and started rubbing her back and patting her and giving her hugs. I almost lost it right there. Sweet big brother. We snuck out while she was with her teacher and took Brett to his room. He walked right in, hung up his bag, and started playing like he had been there for years. He gave us a hug, told us good-bye, and didn't even watch us leave. I was shocked- but very glad. The first day of pre-school and the only one who cried was me! Now I know how all those moms felt when they dropped their kids off to my Kindergarten class. I didn't think I was going to be so sad- but I was. Nothing a sweet tea from Chick-fil-A and some shopping couldn't fix though.

My sweet babies
Mommy's girl
Playing with Daddy
Kate ironing
Brett's favorite- the computer
Washing dishes with Daddy
All ready to go for our first day
This one is my favorite- I did not ask them to kiss each other- they did that all on their own
Walking in with Daddy
Crossing the street- look at Miss Priss with her hand on her hip :)
In front of her room
Giving each other hugs
Kate's teachers- Miss Angie and Miss Jenny
The cutest bumblebee I have ever seen
My boy
Brett and Daddy outside his classroom
Hanging up his bag
Brett with his teacher Miss Joan
Ma and Daddy Bob came with Mommy to pick us up
Happy campers after the first day!! They LOVED it!

It is fun to see "the drop off" from a former kindergarten teacher-now-parent's point of view. Very emotional day and both at the same time!!! I love to tell stories about Brett's devotion to his little sister. It will be so exciting to see that relationship grow as they grow. Amybeth, you and Brian are doing a wonderful job. Thank you for sharing all your thoughts on this very special memorable day. They are beginning to spread their little wings. But that is the way it is supposed to be!
