Day Four - Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City

***Blogger is down in China so I am posting this from email- hope it works.  I think all the pictures will be at the top.  The first few are of Tiananmen Square and the last ones are of Kate eating pizza for the first time.  ***
Today was a good day.  Kate seems to be doing well other than pinching and biting Brian (like I said- the girl is feisty!)  It is very common for children who have been in an orphanage to not like, or be scared of the dad since all the nannies are women.  So this reaction is somewhat normal- but she is not going to get away with it for long.   If she tries to pinch or bite Brett Momma is NOT going to be happy!  She has the absolute cutest personality- but has some spirit in her too.  Here in China they call them "Spicy girls".  Cute with a kick!
It was Saturday morning here so the attractions were very crowded.  They are also getting ready for China's 60th anniversary celebration and this is a big deal.  Yesterday for example every store in Beijing closed at 3pm for rehearsal for the October 1st event.
Kate is doing well.  She is the best sleeper I have ever seen.  You put her down and 2 minutes later she is out and she can sleep through a hurricane.  She also is a very good eater.  She is eating more than Brian and I both.  We went to Pizza Hut today (our first non-chinese meal since we have been here) and she had pizza for the first time.  Thankfully she loved it!!
We also got to go to an acrobat show this afternoon.  It was amazing.  Kate loved it too.  She kept clapping and saying "How"- which means good in mandarin.
Thank you for all your prayers and comments.  I LOVE waking up in the morning and reading all of the comments.  Keep praying for us.  Being away from Brett is so so so so hard.  And pray for us to continue bonding with Kate.  So far we have been encouraged with how well she has bonded- each day seems a little better than the last.  Now if we could only get her to stop pinching and biting.......

Oh she is just so precious! I love the picture of her sleeping in the ergo. Davis loved that thing and I always liked having him right there. What a great way to bond. Thank you again for posting the pictures, I know you are tired but it has been so nice to have faces for our prayers.

I LOVE waking up to new posts! I read them before I even brush my teeth or change Jack's diaper! I think Kate's "Spicy" temperament has probably served her well these two years. We are praying for all of you and so excited things are going so well!!

Hi! I hope you are well today, and getting more rest! We loved the pictures again! Everyone is home so they have all gotten to see them, and everyone agrees Kate is adorable! Sydney liked the picture with the sunglasses the best! Don't worry about the pinching and biting--our kids did stuff like that when they were 2 and they did not have all of the stuff to deal with that Kate is going through! She will get past it! I am praying every day that the Lord will help her transition easily into her new life--how overwhelming it must be for her! I remember when Bibi came to stay with us--the first few days she really acted out (remember, she kicked Nugget out the door!) but as the days went by and she saw more and more how we lived and acted she fell right in step with us! Kare will need a lot of love and patience I am sure, but I know you have an abundance of both of those! Okay, I will be quiet for now! Take care of each other! I love you! Stacy

I love reading your blog every morning. I told Luke this morning that we must log on! So fun to hear of God's blessings! I will continue to pray for your transition. I know that it is mostly good, but i'm sure at times trying especially because she is older and KNOWS what she has been able to get away with:o) They learn so early! Luke is pitching fits, kicking and screaming!! I didn't know this started so early:o)
Love ya...donna:o)

You LOVE waking up to read the comments, we LOVE waking up to read your post! I'm all smiles! She is just so precious and reading about her allows us to see a bit of her personality! We'll continue to pray for you guys and will pray that her connection with her daddy will continue to grow. You and I both are daddy's girls, and I know Brian is going to love having a daddy's girl. Tell him the pinching and biting are love bites and love squeezes! :P

Love you guys! ~Colleen

It must be so very difficult to be so far away from Brett---and for it to be for so long. Ugh. My heart aches for you as I remember hating to be away from my children. BUT soon you will all be together and all of your memories from China will be wonderful but distant. I was beginning to wonder why you were always the one carrying Kate---but now I know why. One thing I am certain of---she will soon learn what a wonderful, loving, kind, sweet daddy she has and you probably won't be able to pry her loose from him. I will keep you in my prayers--especially regarding Brett. I always laugh when I read your blog and you call him "my sweet boy"! Count down the days....it will go by fast. The first few days away from home are always the longest. Then all of a sudden, the time starts flying by!!! May God give you much rest and his peace. By the way, even as I write this Lauren, Josh, and Nora are winging their way across the United States to "home". Oh--I am so excited!!!

So thankful for the updates. Love all the pictures of your beautiful daughter!! I know God will give you wisdom to know how to deal with the biting and pinching. I have no doubt that she will be a daddy's girl in no time. I know Brian is loving her through all the bites and pinches- which is what she needs more then anything. Love that has no limits. I love you so!!

LOVE the blog! It makes me so happy to check up on y'all. What an unbelievable experience. Love the picture of Brett on the tour. You know, Kaki and I are/were biters. It is completley normal =) I still understand the sentiment sometimes and the urge to want to bite someone =) She will outgrow it-no worries. I am sure she will learn what no m'am means soon. We love you and are praying for you. I know Brett is having a fine time with Ma and Daddy Bob. Love, Katie, Steve and the twinks.

Hope each day is a little sweeter than the next....praying for you being away from your little guy...I'm sure that's difficult! I called your mom and left a message to see if they wanted to come on a play date with Brett. Maybe yall can all come soon. Both of my little girls would love to play with your little ones :o)
